Ever wonder how changes at the scale of the city register at another scale? Scientists call this the “butterfly effect,” a phenomenon that is nearly impossible to observe, but one that we strive to simulate in order to shape our human behaviors into best practices. But are simulation models the only way we can recognize multiple scales at work, and would sensing by other means change how we behave in the city?
