On July 19, the Lab invited participants to question how well they know their trash. Most people may think they know what their trash looks like, but, really, most of it is hidden. To see what possibilities waste conceals, participants dismantled and analyzed individual pieces of locally sourced garbage with the help of scales, barcode readers, open-source databases, and waste-management data.

This workshop was led by Dietmar Offenhuber, a research fellow in the SENSEable City Lab, and Pablo Rey, a member of Basurama, a creative collective based in Boston and Madrid whose work focuses on the study of waste.
