Lab Design: Carbon Fiber—Opportunity for Innovation

Lightweight and compact, with a structural skeleton built of carbon fiber, the mobile structure for the first cycle of the BMW Guggenheim Lab has been designed by the Tokyo architecture firm Atelier Bow-Wow as a "traveling toolbox." Leo E. Argiris (principal, Arup) and Martin Marciano and Mark Fiedler (principals, Fiedler Marciano Architecture) discuss the team approach to the innovative carbon fiber structure and the legacy they hope the Lab will leave behind in New York.
