Surrounded by stately buildings, the Horniman Circle Gardens, which date back to the nineteenth century, still host theater and music performances. An ancient banyan tree within the circle apparently acted as the venue for India’s first stock exchange.

    Mobile Lab Units: Drum Circle

    Mobile Lab Units held its first pop-up event—a drum circle of more than 50 drummers, which drew more than 150 people—at Horniman Circle, the Lab’s first satellite location. The event welcomed passersby and onlookers to join in and feel the beat.

    Where do people find or create private, personal space (outside of domestic space, that is) in a city as dense as Mumbai? Join the Lab in an ongoing series facilitated by the KRVIA Design Cell as we ask visitors to participate in visually mapping these physical locations by using geo-tagged cameras out in the city, creating mental maps, and analyzing the results.
